Ten minutes from Biarritz. Ten from Bayonne. Fifteen from the beaches at Anglet and Bidart, and the same from the first Basque villages. Marie Eder sits in Arcangues, right at the crossroads — close enough to reach everything, far enough to come home to quiet.
An ideal base for exploring the region
Five minutes from the A63, so you’re out and back easily. Free private parking. Dinner served on site, so there’s no drive at the end of the day. You explore the whole region and still sleep somewhere green and calm.
The coast
Ten minutes and you’re in Biarritz — the Rocher de la Vierge, the Côte des Basques, the old town. Fifteen brings you to the long sands at Anglet, or south through Bidart and Guéthary to the fishing port at Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Forty kilometres of coast, all within easy reach.
The inland villages
The first villages are fifteen minutes away, the loveliest within half an hour. Arcangues is our own — château, pelota court, a good restaurant. Then Ainhoa, Sare at the foot of La Rhune, Espelette with its red peppers, and Cambo-les-Bains. Whitewashed houses, red shutters, no crowds.

The mountain and La Rhune
The hills start behind the hotel. La Rhune (905 m) is twenty minutes to the trailhead, or take the old rack railway from Sare. From the summit you see the whole coast and into Spain. San Sebastián is fifty minutes if you fancy a day across the border.
Cycling and golf
Golf d’Arcangues is five minutes from reception, with Makila, Biarritz Le Phare and Anglet Chiberta all under twenty. Cyclists have the cols, the Vélodyssée and quiet village roads on the doorstep. We keep secure storage for bikes and clubs, and serve breakfast early. See our Golf Getaways page →

Basque cuisine
We serve a lunch menu during the week — posted daily on @hotelmarieeder. Beyond that, the Basque Country is one of the best places in France to eat — cool coffee shops and modern kitchens in Biarritz and Bayonne, ten minutes away, and traditional village restaurants a quarter of an hour inland. Espelette pepper turns up in most of it.
Families are welcome
Gardens to run in, family rooms, baby equipment on request — and a quiet setting well away from Biarritz’s summer crowds, though the beaches and aquarium are only ten minutes off.
